Mission Statement and President's Message
September 2008

Welcome to the Guardsmen Basketball Club. The goal of the Guardsmen Basketball Club is to provide players, who want to play basketball at the next level, the opportunity to play with and against the best players in Ontario, Quebec, and the Northeastern United States. It has been a successful member of the Ontario Basketball Association since 1991 with an affiliated club in the Ottawa area. The organization has helped produce many College and University players, Provincial Team players as well as players who have played on our National Team.

The Guardsmen Club is a competitive organization, dedicated to providing players an opportunity to play basketball at a higher level. Although players are not guaranteed equal playing time in games, as a club we do promise equal opportunity to learn more about the game. However, if a player makes a commitment to the team by attending practices and working hard in every practice, they can expect active support from the coaching staff. The executive and coaching staff of the Club do not feel they are in a position to judge what a legitimate excuse is for missing practice. Therefore, the only excuse that will not affect playing time is if you have a "school team commitment".

Parents and players are encouraged to discuss concerns they may have with the coaching staff at appropriate times, such as after practice. Parents should not question playing time. Playing time is a decision made by the coaches based on several issues - first and foremost, commitment to practice; other factors to consider include the importance of winning a particular game, effort of player during the game, etc. Our coaching staff does not pretend to be perfect but they give a tremendous amount of time and their best effort to the development of your child's basketball skills. If you abuse or cause any grief to our coaches, you will be warned once and if it continues, you will be asked to drop your child off at practice and games and not come in. One or two parents can cause a lot of grief for our volunteer coaches and the club will not tolerate it.

The Guardsmen Basketball Club, as an affiliated member of Basketball Ontario, enforces the Provincial "Fair Play Policy Statement". It states -

"To enjoy the sport and the competition, cheer as much as you want.
Verbal or physical abuse of fellow players, spectators, coaches or officials
         will not be tolerated."
"We are here to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Please don't take the fun out of sports
         for others."
"If you disregard our Policy, you will be asked to leave our Fair Play Facility."

Our goal is to teach and develop basketball players. Please support our organization, our coaches and managers and our players.
