Guardsmen Alumni Updated June 2003
This page is dedicated to the players who spent a minimum of two years
in the Guardsmen program and have graduated from our Juvenile/Premier programs.
It documents some of their athletic accomplishments during their Guardsmen years and the
years following.
The Guardsmen Club is always looking for more information to be added to this page. If you have more
current information about anyone who is on this page, or you know of someone who
should be added, contact me and I will be
more than happy to add it.

| Ashley Kimmett |
Ashley played all of her Guardsmen years beginning in Bantam under
the coaching of Rob Smart. She won "AA" provincial titles in both the Bantam and
Premier divisions.
Her high school basketball years were spent at Napanee District Secondary School
where she was a team leader.

Ashley attends Carleton University where she plays for the
Ravens.
In her rookie year, she averaged a team-high of nearly 16 points per game
(fourth in the OUA). She was the Ravens' top rebounder, ripping down 6.8 boards (10th)
a game and had a team-high 42 steals. She was named the OUA East rookie of the year and
was selected to the conference's second all-star team. The CIS also awarded her an
all-Canadian selection and an all-rookie team selection. |
| Julie Roantree |
Julie's love for basketball began at 8 years of age when she joined
the NDSS youth league. At age 12, Julie started playing for the Guardsmen Bantam Girls
under the coaching of Rob Smart. In her second year, her team won the "AA" Provincial
title. With Rob still coaching, Julie and the premier girls' team won the "AA"
Provincial in 2002 and Julie was awarded the MVP of that tournament.
Julie was also a strong player on the Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School basketball
team, winning KASSA and EOSSA, competing at OFSAA, and capturing the 2002 MVP at Holy
Cross.

Julie majors in Kinesiology at Wilfrid Laurier University and plays
basketball for the
Hawks.
This year, with Julie's help, the Hawks went to the Nationals for the first time in
the school's history. |

Pat's high school basketball was played at Prince Edward Collegiate
Institute in Picton.

In his first year, Pat was a member of the 2003 CIS men's basketball championship team. |

| Ben Doornekamp |
Ben played with the Guardsmen for 9 years, culminating his career as a member
of the Premier Championship squad. He was a three time member of the
Ontario Provincial U19 team, and was named to the 2000 All-Star team at the Canadian Nationals.
He was co-captain of the Ernestown S.S. team which went on to lose in the quarter
finals of OFSAA "AAA." He was a three time city all-star. |

| Nate Doornekamp |
Nate was with the Guardsmen for 9 years. One of his career highlights as a Guardsmen includes
playing on the Premier Championship squad. He was a member of the Provincial U16 team and a two time
member of the Ontario Provincial U19 team. He led Team Ontario to the gold medal at the NIKE 2000
Junior National Championships in London, Ontario, also led provincial team to gold medals in 1998 and
1999.
In the summer of 2000, he played for a World U19 team that toured the U.S. playing U21 teams.
He played for Ernestown S.S. and was a four time city all-star. He averaged 27 points and 15
rebounds in his final year at Ernestown.
Nate earned All-Canadian and All-Ontario first team honours in 2000-01.

Nate is a 7' centre for Boston
College Eagles
of the NCAA. As a freshman in 2001-2002, he started all 32 games, averaging 2.2 points and 3.6 boards
in just under 17 minutes of action.
He concluded his first season with an eight-point, five-rebound effort against Texas in the
first round of the NCAA Tournament in Dallas, Texas.
As a sophomore, he started all 31 games for the Eagles, averaged 4 rebounds and 3.3 points in
just under 25 minutes. He was second on the team with 23 blocks and chipped in 32 assists.
He played four games in the summer of 2002 with the Canadian Development Team; the team finished
with a 3-1 record, including two wins over Eastern Michigan University.
He was a member of Team Canada that placed sixth in the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China
in August 2001. He travelled to Mexico during the summer of 2001 as part of a six-game exhibition tour
with the Canadian team.
Nate was again a member of Team Canada at the World University Games in the summer of 2003. The team
captured the bronze medal in South Korea. In the 82-80 bronze medal game against China, Nate had a
double-double, reaching double digits in both points and rebounds. |
| Will Featherstonehough |
Will played with the Guardsmen for two years. He was a member of the Premier Championship team.
In 2000, he made the Provincial U18 squad. In high school, he was a three year starter at Gananoque S.S.
where he led his team to the OFSAA "A" championships.

| Rick Paudyn |
Rick played with the Guardsmen for 8 years, culminating his career as a member
of the Premier Championship squad. He was a member of the Ernestown S.S. team which went on to lose in the quarter
finals of OFSAA "AAA" and was a city all-star in his senior year. |

| Matt Ross |
Matt played with the Guardsmen for 4 years and was a member of the Premier Championship team in 2000.
He was also a two time member of the Ontario Provincial U19 team that won the 1999 and 2000 National Championships
in Montreal and London. A Milford, Ontario native, his high school career was played at Prince Edward Collegiate
Institute where he was the league's top scorer. |

Matt was named to the OU East All-Rookie team in 2001. He was a major contributor to the success of the Ravens in
capturing the CIS men's basketball championship in 2003. |
| Mike Smart |
Mike played with the Guardsmen for 9 years, finishing his career as a member
of the Premier Championship squad and was named MVP of the Premier Division 1 Championships.
He was also a member of the Ontario Provincial U19 team 1998 to 2000, and was named MVP at the 2000
Junior Men's Canadian Nationals.
He was co-captain of the Ernestown S.S. team which went on to lose in the quarter
finals of OFSAA "AAA." He was a three time city all-star.
In the summer, Mike is one of the co-ordinators of the Guardsmen Super Camp in Napanee. |
Attends Carleton University and plays basketball for the
Ravens.
Mike helped the top-ranked Ravens to capture the school's first-ever Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's
basketball championship in 2003. The team headed into the championship with a nearly perfect 21-1 record.
In the OUA semi-finals, Mike was the 2003 Wilson Cup Game MVP. In 2001, Mike was selected to the OUA Rookie
All-Star team. |
| Rich Whitfield |
Rich played with the Guardsmen for many years. He finished his Guardsmen career as a member
of the Premier Championship squad and coached a Guardsmen Bantam Boys team. |
Attended St. Lawrence College and played basketball for a year with the
Vikings. |

| Anne McDonnell |
Anne graduated from the Guardsmen Club with a tremendous amount of respect
from her coaches and teammates. Stories of Anne's love of basketball and determination to
succeed have been told again and again to young Guardsmen players and new coaches. She is
an excellent role model.

After transferring from Waterloo University to Carleton University, Anne
soon established herself as heart and soul of the Carleton
Ravens
women's basketball team. In her 5th year of university basketball in 2003, Anne was the
starting guard for the Ravens and was off to an excellent start, but was sidelined early
with an ACL tear. |
| Rob Smart |
Rob Smart, a Napanee native, was a star player with the Ernestown Eagles.
During his high school years, he also helped to co-ordinate the Youth Basketball League
in Napanee.
Rob played three years with the under 19 provincial team.

Rob began his university basketball career at Simon Fraser University in
British Columbia, where he was captain and number one point-man in his second year. He
then transferred to Carleton University and sat out one year before joining the
Ravens.
The Ravens' Co-Captain was selected as one of Canada's Top Eight Academic Student-Athletes
for the 2002-03 school year. As a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) student-athlete,
he maintained an "A" average while leading the Carleton University men's varsity basketball
team to the 2002-03 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) National Championship, in Halifax,
Nova Scotia.
Rob was selected First Team All-Canadian for leading the Carleton University
Ravens Men's Basketball team to a 21-1 OUA East regular season Championship and a 33-1
overall record which included the program and school's first ever CIS National
Championship. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2002-03 Carleton University
squad and was chosen as the Ravens Male Athlete of the Year. He averaged 12.50 points
per game during the OUA East regular season while playing in all 22 games. During the
OUA and CIS post season run, Smart averaged 10 points per game and was named MVP of the
OUA East Championship game versus York and the CIS Semi-Final versus Laval.
Smart was an Academic All-Canadian all three years he played for Carleton and was named
a Basketball All-Canadian all three years, earning second team honours in 2001, third
team honours in 2002 in addition to the 2003 first team selection. Smart was a First
Team OUA East All-Star all three years that he played at Carleton University.

In the summer of 2003, Rob was a member of Team Canada which finished with a bronze medal
in the 2003 World University Games in South Korea. Rob was starting point guard for the
team.
